“Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin” (Psalm 51).
This psalm was written by David when Nathan had come to him after committing adultery with Bathsheba and murdering her husband Uriah.
David confesses his sin and prays for forgiveness. Have you ever sin? Have you ever regret about your sins? As a child of God I believe that when you do something wrong, the Spirit of the Lord allow you to know what you did wrong. David was a man after God’s own heart.” He did something wrong and prays for pardon. He confesses his sins and pray for renewing grace. We will find “holy” people on earth that say: I am a good person, I am a good Christian and I never commit sin. The word of the Lord says in 1 John 8-10 “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” If we claim we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar and His word is not in us.
David acknowledges his sin against God and prays not only for God to cleanse him, but also to renew and restore to him the joy of salvation.
In verse 13-17 he promises also to sing aloud of God’s righteousness, for he knows that God delights in such when it comes from a broken and contrite spirit. Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Psalm 32:1
As David prayed for forgiveness and restoration we should follow his example. He prays for forgiveness, for God to purge him with hyssop, that he might be clean. He prays for restoration, for God to make him hear joy and gladness. He asked God to create in him a clean heart and not cast him away from His presence.
“Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are as scarlet, they will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They will be like wool” (Isaiah 1:18). Confess your sins and admit that you are a sinner. As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: (Romans 3:10) Be willing and ready to repent from your sins. Believe that Jesus died on the cross for you, was buried, and rose from the dead.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:9-10)
Lord thank you. Thank you for rescuing me and keeping me from falling.
“Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives. Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault. All glory to him who alone is God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are his before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time! Amen” (Jude 1:23-25).
Lord Jesus forgive me, for I am a sinner. Please wash me and clean me with your Spirit. Come into my heart and fill me. Take control of every part of my life. I give everything over to you. Thank you for taking away my sin. Thank you Father for forgiving me, for washing and cleansing me. Thank you for loving me even when I fall short of your glory. Thank you Lord that you keep no record of my wrong. Thank you that I am a new creature through Christ Jesus. Amen.
Thank you Lord for I Am Free!
